Describe Yourself:
Introducing Social Designer A new website featuring goods for the greater good.Felissimo Design House is pleased to announce the launch of their latest retail endeavor, Social Designer: Goods for the Greater Good (www.socialdesigner.com), an online marketplace for designers, artists and consumers who want to make a difference. Social Designer promotes social awareness through design competitions, the selling of goods created as a result, and donation of a portion of the proceeds to non-profit organizations tied to the nine cause categories it supports.
Social Designer strives to spark new ideas about the issues that matter most by encouraging participants to create fun, socially-relevant graphics for tees, totes and other fashion items. Starting April 2009, Social Designer will host weekly rotating design competitions online and invite individuals to create original art and products that support meaningful causes.
Each week will focus on one of the cause categories: Animal Welfare, Peace, Education, Arts & Culture, Emergency Relief, Environment, Health & Well-Being, Human Rights and Poverty. Through the votes from the online community and a panel of judges, a winner will be chosen and receive $2,000 and their design will be featured and sold on the Social Designer website.
Social Designer is brought to you by the New York office of Felissimo, a global company that strives to promote social responsibility through good design.
“Buy stuff, design stuff, vote on stuff, and be an agent of change! We all yearn to be creative, to express ourselves, to show we care, and to consume responsibly. Our goal is to satisfy all those yearnings and make it as fun and exciting as possible,” explains the Felissimo Director Haruko Smith.
Social Designer will also feature hand-selected influencers and designers to participate by creating their own “Illustrious T” to benefit a charity near and dear to their heart. Social Designer will continuously introduce established names who share in the same vision to do good. Currently on sale and display are works from New York-based artist/designer Tobias Wong, London-based design curator and author Max Fraser and jewelry designer Hannah Martin, Berlin/Paris-based fashion and product designers Bless, Brussels-based JDS Architects, and renowned Spanish designer Martí Guixé who also designed the Social Designer logo. Social Designer will donate from 20-50% of profits from sales to participating organizations and charities including UNESCO/Tribute 21 DREAM Centers, the American Cancer Society, Aikido International Foundation, SPCA International, Architecture for Humanity, The September Concert Foundation, The Edible Foundation, 826 National and Kiva.
